If you have installed earlier pre-release versions of .NET Framework 3.5, then you must uninstall them. Do you have windows installer 3.1 installed, this is one pre-requisite? Check the event viewer, if it shows any information?

Hope this helps

Thank You
2012-01-03T07:51:48-05:004761998http://forums.asp.net/p/1754806/4761998.aspx/1?Re+Having+trouble+getting+ASP+NET+framework+cannot+add+MS+Visual+Web+Developer+etc+Re: Having trouble getting ASP.NET framework, cannot add MS Visual Web Developer, etc.
Hello. I used the Visual Studio uninstaller, but I think that it didn't uinstall EVERYTHING that VWD left behind, and that's the reason the install kept on failing. Once I manually deleted every instance of VWD from my registry, and manually removed instances of VWD via Windows Explorer, then it finally installed properly, along with MS SQL Server RS 2008. So basically, I believe that's what was happening. It also helped that I used Aaron's msdn blog for a direct download link, although I still use the Platform Installer for other things, like MVC 3.0 tools, etc.

Thank you all for your time in responding, and thank you for your advice -- it's much appreciated!

Jason Weber
2012-01-03T13:12:05-05:004762927http://forums.asp.net/p/1754806/4762927.aspx/1?Re+Having+trouble+getting+ASP+NET+framework+cannot+add+MS+Visual+Web+Developer+etc+Re: Having trouble getting ASP.NET framework, cannot add MS Visual Web Developer, etc.
looks like an installed crashed during installing something and it may have left something behind

there is a free tool called ccleaner (google it) , and it will try to fix broken registery values and similar errors

..

if that didnt work, re-install windows.
2012-01-04T01:58:55-05:004847067http://forums.asp.net/p/1754806/4847067.aspx/1?Re+Having+trouble+getting+ASP+NET+framework+cannot+add+MS+Visual+Web+Developer+etc+Re: Having trouble getting ASP.NET framework, cannot add MS Visual Web Developer, etc.
Hi,

You should have XP SP3 premium.
2012-02-23T10:43:46-05:00
