I would like to know if ASP.NET 4.0 is best tech to implement a social networking site like facebook. Or do we need to go for php

It is a great technology. What you choose is more or less up to shat skills you and your team have. Regardless of technology you should consider well design, great architecture and a lot of caching-features to provide awesome performance if you consider developing a social network-site

I think the resounding vote from this forum (since it is an ASP.NET forum) is going to be 'Yes'! Now go ask this question in a PHP forum and they will probably vote the inverse.

ASP.NET 4.0 is technology sitting atop a robust and mature .NET framework with a lot of choices and ways to implement solutions. There is no reason you could not build a fantastic social networking site using ASP.NET.

Hi,

like the others said, ASP.NET is a good choice for that ;-) If you want to compare it with PHP...Facebook started with PHP and had some (many) problems with it.
