As far as I am aware DW 8 has only syntax highlighting for basic keywords and no extensions exist to allow DW embrace masterpages, DataSets etc, I've said this before on here but DW is a great application to design you're HTML and CSS code (far better than
VS I feel). Then port the code to VS2005 or VWD so you can use the great features of ASP.NET 2.0 to the full and also take advantage of advanced debugging of you're code.
I have had DW for the last 4 years and I think its slowly slipped support for ASP.NET and PHP and concentrated on being an IDE for ColdFusion more...which is presumable seens as though its their product too.
Expression is a very powerful Web design tool and it comes with extensive ASP.NET support (except server code intellisense and debugging which only available in VS).
If I am using Visuak Web Developer 2005 Express, why do I need or even want the Expression Web Designer product line? Surely, I can do everything in VWD that Expression has to offer?
For a person that has moved away from Dreamweaver MX 2004 to VWD 2005 Express, the latest Expression offering is adding some confusion ..
On face value: Graphic Designer seems to be a competitive offering to Adobe Illustrator etc.; and Interactive Designer seems to be a competitive offering to Adobe/Macromedia Flash. Is that a "fair" comparison?
Expression Web Designer has many features important for designer such as image tracing, image dediting, new powerful CSS layout tools. However, Expression does not have server code intellisense or debugging tools. Think about Visual Studio / VWD as developer-oriented
product and Expression as designer oriented product. You may be perfectly happy with VWD, you don't have to get Expression. However, if you are interested primarily in Web design (as opposed to coding), site and asset management, Expression may be of value
to you.

I've tried the beta of Visual Web Developer and found it to be a total flop. I had high hopes for this product and am very disappointed. It may work fine for new, simple sites but as far as opening exisitng VS2005 projects, it is a dog
Problem #1 - VWD does not recognize virtual sites that reside within wwwroot
Problem # 2 - VS2005 uses the "~" notation to indicate the root of the site. VWD does not recognize it
Problem # 3 - if your DOC Type resides in your master file (as it should) VWD does not recognize it and adds that stupid <span lang="us"> crap all over the place which is iritating beyond belief
This product may be fine if you come from the FrontPage world. But if your used to using VS as your code tool and DreamWeaver as your html/css editor and you are looking for a good WYSIWYG editor that DOES work with ASP.NET master pages, this is not the
tool in my estimation.
Having said that, nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong. If somebody out there has a link to a good tutorial that explains how to use VWD with existing ASP.NET 2.0 applications, please let me know. Otherwise, let's hope Adobe adds support
for MasterPages to Dreamweaver.
the image rendered correctly in the EWD designer. How do you open sites in the IIS? As a file system Web in the virtual folder or as remote via
http://localhost?

Dreamweaver 8 Extensions for ASP.NET 2.0?
May 07, 2006 11:50 AM|LINK
Are there any extensions for Dreamweaver 8 that support ASP.NET 2.0?
As an alternative, is there any documentation as to how to migrate pages designed in Dreamweaver to the VS .NET 2.0 development environment.
It sure be nice if Dreamweaver supported Master Pages.

You should be able to simply open existing site created in DW in Visual Web Developer or VS 2005. Please also have a look here:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/en/web_designer/default.mspx

that's correct - my mistake. I meant Expression Web Designer (EWD).
I do stand by my comments and I do still wish to be proven wrong! - anybody out there...

Here is what I tried regarding ~
- Created a new Web site in EWD
- Added ASPX page
- Created a folder named foo
- Added an image to the foo folder
added <asp:image runat="server" id="image1" imageurl="~/foo/image.jpg" />
the image rendered correctly in the EWD designer. How do you open sites in the IIS? As a file system Web in the virtual folder or as remote via http://localhost?
