Hello,

I have noticed few bugs and few other members have also informed few bugs in the classified starter Kit.

Rather than each member posting same bugs again and again in different threads, getting them spreaded with less details and information, i welcome all members  to post the bugs here founded in starterkit. This will prevent duplication of bugs as well as a single thread to be noticed/rectified by the developers of starterkit.

Please support and post the bugs founded in this thread only.

In firefox, the PostAd.aspx page does not display properly.

To fix it,

Look for the <div id="col_main_right"> and right before the closing </div> statement add the following lines,
                <p>&nbsp;</p>
                <p>&nbsp;</p>
                <p>&nbsp;</p>
                <p>&nbsp;</p>
                <p>&nbsp;</p>

A CSS fix would be better but this works and is simple.

Here are few  another bugs  found.

As an admin, if you move an advt from one category to another category, it adds an extra count in the list......
for example if there are totaly 8 ads posted and if the admin moves the 8th advt from A category to B category the count shows as  9 ads and in some cases it also shows (-1) also. Now there is no such thing like (-1)

Here are some more bugs
(1) The admin panel is not working perfectly.It is very very limited.
As an admin you are not blessed with much power. More admin features are expected.
(2) The description does not allow paragraphs. and the whole matter comes in a straight line.
The paragraph formatting should be given, with a support of a free text editor.
(3) The Price feature is compulsory and it shows along with the other option...
for example it shows as  " For sale $ 1.0 ".

Now if you want anything still the price feature is there. There is no scope for bargains.

"For sale"  is a different heading and " price " is also a different matter.

I am trying to add more things in Advt Type like
(1) For sale ( Already there )
(2) Wanted ( Already there )
(3) For Limited Time only
(4) Urgently required - For Blood donations advts
(5) Wanted Grooms ( Matrimonial Ads )
(6) Wanted Brides ( Matrimonial Ads )

I cannot make this work, Only For Sale and Wanted is showing at all places.
Can any one suggest me what to do. I need to add mny advt types dependingon matter.
Plus The Price feature should not be mandatory.

Any help is welcome.

BETA PERIOD EXTENTED TILL MAY END

Hello, in a response today, i unterstood that BETA Starterkit period  is extented till may end.
The only reason to extend is to get enough feedbacks and bugs from the users.

Pl. post your feedbacks and bugs here. Pl. make it fast so that it is solved and supported by the end of this month. You still have one full month to go.

1) categaries only go deep to second layer, can not see the third layer.  auto->truck->local truck

2) can not disable auto link after create the second layer truck

3) it's better to separate showing "for sale" and "wanted" and others such as "limited..."

4) as an admin, can not "manage users" which is most important on a websites like this.

5) it seems that I created an account for guest seven days ago, but now i can not login by this account, and i can not get pwd by "forgot password" wizard, when i fill in the "user name"

A Third level support is highly welcomed. This will also help to place the classifieds city wise also.

for example (1) City - NewYork
                           Level 2-----(2) Jobs
                                Level 3-------(3) Computer Programmers

The support of third level can do wonders. PLUS...... The admin panel should be much muich advanced for such a great classified portal. I think atleast 60% advancements should be added in admin panel.

Price feature should allow multiple currency.  Our classifieds are not local to US.
For US only classified, Country->State support is needed. If user wants to look at classifieds in California only, they can search based upon above criteria

both can not work as expected,  given  all of the posted ads.

One of the features desired is when you hit postad.aspx, some of the first level categories, say all category>music, is  hidden and other categories are shown for the loggedin users to submit posts only within the shown categories.

Bug in PhotoDB Class:

The File.Exists and File.Delete Method that is used to delete photo files cannot accept Uri as a parameter (ie. "http://localhost:xxxx/Ads/Upload/10.Md.jpg").  On the File.Exists(filename) condition statement will always return false.

It can be done currently.  The problem is in using a DataList for display. The categories are all there just not shown. You have to explicitly add a repeater control for each category level you want to expose.  For example, in the /Controls/CategoryBrowse.ascx file you can add the following (see part marked "new" and please excuse poor formatting) to expose a 3rd level:

This is a bug and to fix it go to App_Data -> CLASSIFIEDSDB.mdf -> Stored Procedure -> InsertPhoto, and change the last statement 'Return @Id)'by 'SELECT @Id AS [Id] '.

This allows to retrieve the real Id instead of 0 (null), so it can store the real photo name under 'Upload' folder.

When I am in the "My Ads" page, with approval enabled for ads, and click on "Ads awaiting approval" or my inactive ads, both dosplay the wrong info. The awaiting aproval shows My Current Ads and Inactive Ads shows inactive ads and ads awaiting approval.

Also, the user I created via the ASP.NET admin site can't post Ads, but other users can.

Finally, if I select an ad to be a favoured ad, via the search intereface in Site Administration, it does not appear on the home page, on the LHS, where I think it is supposed to.

Small things, and otherwise a fantasic time saver and learning tool,  thanks MS!
