  Failed to install MSXML 6.0 Parser during installation of Visual Studio

  Hi all,

  I am new to microsoft product and trying to install Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition and getting "Fatal error during installation":

  The following component failed to install:

  MSXML 6.0 Parser

  The error log is as follows:

  I have previously installed visual c# 2005 express and visual web developer 2005 express.  But I have uninstall all those express edition before I tried to install Visual Studio 2005.  I do not have MSXML parser installed previously.  I have tried everything I could but it still doesn't work.  The installation only install the .net framework but nothing else.  Can anyone please help?

  Still can't solve the problem.  Forgot to mention in the last post.  I am trying to install on a windows XP machine.  I've also tried to install MSXML 6.0 parser seperately by running the msxml6.msi under wcu\MSXML of the installation CD Disk1.  But it gave me this error:

  Could not open key:

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Interface\{{C90352F4-643C-4FBC-BB23-E996EB2D51FD}\ProxyStubClsid32.  Verify that you have the sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

  I have checked I do have full access to that.  Anyone has any suggestion?

  Try deleting the key prior to the install. If you have full rights you should be able to delete it. Another thing: do you have AV running with realtime check?

  Thank you so much for the suggestion.  I've tried deleting the key prior to the installation.  But it still gave me the same error.  From registry I can see the key is re-created but has no value.  What is "AV" you mentioned in the last post?  Sorry I am really a beginner to all this.  Thank you so much for your help.  I am desperately trying to get the thing work.

  I have also tried to turn the AntiVirus off then install.  But still getting this error

  Could not open key:

  The key ProxyStubClsid32 was created without any value associated with it.

  Any suggestions?

  I mean Anti-Virus software or any spyware monitoring tool which may be preventing access to registry keys.

  It works now :-)))

  I have to delete the key {{C90352F4-643C-4FBC-BB23-E996EB2D51FD} not the subkey ProxyStubClsid32.  Also have to delete 18 other keys manually from the registry.  Don't know why I have to do that.

  Hi,

  don't know why, but it seems that the installer runs as System.

  I get full controll to SYSTEM on all MSXML2.xxxx.6.0 registry keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes

  and I succesfully installed the MSXML2 (at least I didn't get errors).

  Now I can go on installing MS VS 2005 Team Explorer

  Hope this helps someone...

  Hi, 

  I faced similar error while installing VS 2005 in my colleague’s machine (WinXP SP3). 
  We tried to uninstall MSXML 6.0 Parser and failed. Removing registry keys is seems to be difficult, so we downloaded Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and removed “MSXML 6.0 Parser”.
  Then we installed VS 2005 successfully.
