Has anyone had any experiences, either good or bad, with running DNN in a shared hosting environment with HSphere as the Control Panel?  If so, could you please explain?

We're thinking about doing this but have run into what appear to be permissioning issues along the way and can not determine if the problem is the hosting provider or the H-Sphere CP

I had an account where h-sphere was the CP and I couldn't use DNN there. But to be fair (and I'm no h-sphere fan) it's probably not the h-sphere CP, but the host's policy settings.

If you're having problems with your host, shoot me an email.  I'd be glad to get you set up on my servers.

I'm using one of the windows plans offered by Jodohost, which uses HSphere as control panel.
Prior to installing dnn, I've just had to ask them to:
    - give full asp.net permissions to the folder where dnn is installed
    - give dbo rights to the db user used by dnn
    - if dnn is installed in a subfolder and not in the root, convert that folder to an IIS application

Once this has been done, dnn installs with no problem.

What hosting company are you using?
If you get an error during installation, try to copy and paste here the error, it may be useful to understand  what's going wrong.

DNN all versions run with no problems on shared hosting using Hsphere control panel. All my clients are using this setup. The problem you are having would be that your hosting provider has not set the site permissions correctly - talk direct to them and ask them to set the permissions for you. Depending on your hosting provider you may be able to use the file manager in the quick access menu to view and or set the permissions. I do not allow this in the file manager for my clients but check out yours to see if you can.

Normally in a shared hosting environment a lot of the hsphere functions are turned off when you design the actual hosting plan - you may find the the hosting provider has more complex plans available. The type of control panel software that you have really has no effect on DNN - it is the functions allowed within the plan that may however. ie the hosting provider can turn off the sql manager thus you would not be able to create a database unless you pay for the sql plan. etc.

Your provider SHOULD not charge you any extra to change the permissions if he does then find another provider.

The issue we're having is with JodoHost.  And it seems to only be associated with DNN 3.1.1 and 3.1.0 installs.

Have you done any installs of DNN 3.1.1 sucessfully?  And do you have access to an enduser or a reseller control panel?

    Thanks!

I switched to JodoHost after Godaddy dropped the ball and refused to help. You have to put in a ticket for them to add the permissions as someone else explained above. Once that is down, run the url for the first time and it will install correctly. You may have some modules not load correctly. We can help you with that if it happens. It is an extremely easy fix and not sure if it is a bug in the install process or not.

If you need help, please email me and I can provide a phone number if need be. I will even wave the tech support fee. 8)

Yes, I've installed it 2 times, with no problem.
    The version is DNN 3.1.1.
I have a shared hosting account (enduser)

Do you get any error? Post it here, it could help...
Also, have you contacted their support? If not, open a ticket (from your control panel) and explain them the problem - they are very fast in solving problems.

Mark, your email is getting bounced back. If you just moved, I may not be able to resolve to it yet. Do you have another email I can send to?

Is the site up and running and your trying to install the rest of the modules or is this a clean install?

As it stands at the moment this is a 'clean' (ie DNN reports it as an error-less) install.  Although modules are missing, General Exceptions were found, etc...
