I have yet to get any of these starter kits working. Followed the MSDE install exactly whick only installs the database engine then secures it with a password. Starter kits do not install correctly in local database mode as you all know. Installed the kit using
the remote database and it installed but then trying to follow the rest of the instructions in the readme file is impossible. MSDE does not have SQL Query Analyzer. oSQL utility cannot be found anywhere. These starter kits should be a bit easier to install
for new people trying to learn. t is a good attempt but I am seeing the exact same post form other people regarding these installs. How do really get these starter kits installed using a fresh machine running XP Pro, IIS? There has to be more to the installation
of MSDE to get this to work, correctly. I'm surprised this issue has not been resolved correctly.
I could not agree more. installed as instructed. can see my msde in the tray, in Matrix, cant install the sample time tracker thing because it cant test the connection.
Hi, I agree that the install info could be much better. It took me some effort to get the two starter kits I've tried to work. One thing that may be missleading is the term starter kit. They are not - and I think they do mention this - for people totally new
to ASP.NET technology. They are rather appliaction templates to help those that have already grapped the basic develope useful applications. While they are all called starter kits, they were developed independently, have different install procedures, and assume
differnt things - If your're running Windows 2003 Server, the defaults ASP.NET worker process has the wrong name. I still think they are useful, and you will be able to get things going, in most cases, but they could make it easier to see just what you are
getting into.
Hi, My quible with the Time Tracker install, was that it didn't offer to use a pre-existing DB. I just found I have more control creating an empty DB before hand. The CSK install had this option, and I thought all the SKs did - ended up with two DBs.
Brian - I'm trying to get the Issue Tracker to work on my Windows 2003 Server and I've gone through the permissions and everything I can think of and I still get a "Page not found" error if I use
http://localhost/issuetracker as the url. If I use
http://servername/issuetracker url I get a windows authentication window to put in my windows login info and then it gives me a "Page not found" error.
Hi,
I really haven't even looked at the starter kits for a couple of months now; been busy in creating my own site. I can't recall if I even tried the issue tracker SK. I think your best bet is to try posting a couple of new posts, one in the getting started
section, and one in the starter kits forum. That is AFTER, you've done a keyword search of the forums to see if you can find the answer has been provided already.
A couple of things you could try - use "local" intead of "localhost". That works in some cases for some people, and I don't know why. Also, try looking at the IIS manager in admin tools. When you look through the default websites under your server, you
may find some info there that will help you. In any case, it's good to learn to use the IIS manager to find out info about the stuff you have available there. If you don't know how to make sense of what you see in thoses screens, the help files are useful.
Hope you get the answer you need. BRN..

I have exactly the same problem - have tried them all and cannot get any of them to work.
If anyone out there has managed to get them to work how about posting a step by step guide for the rest of us.
Thanks
