Ann, Thanks for your interest in our store. No we don't have the patch ready yet. With the announcement of 3.0 we have evaluated the store and are deciding what features to put into AIS-EC 2.0 and AIS-EC 3.0 which will be for DNN 3.0. We will have a patch ready
soon. Thanks, Dennis
Sorry let me rewind. With the help of Sean McElroy AIS-EC was born and released for DotNetNuke. Some people were able to do some cool things with our code and we launched a few successful e-commerce sites for clients. However, AIS-EC was rather difficult for
a none developer to use b/c of installation issues. I completely re-wrote AIS-EC from the ground up and released it as AIS-EC 2.0. Along the way I made some friends that answered questions, etc. After the release, I formed an open source team to continue the
development of AIS-EC and invited these people to join. We knew there were/would be some bugs with AIS-EC 2.0 but we really wanted to get it out to the DNN community to see what we were doing. The goal is now as a team to fix these bugs and add a few features
and get that released as a service pack. This should make AIS-EC 2.0 very useable. We have been discussing an Access Data Provider. Our general thoughts are that an e-commerce site should run on a more powerful DB such as SQL Server but to be the most compatible
we think adding an Access Provider would be a good idea. Thanks,
Hi, Dennis, Yes, I fully agree that the eCommerce site should run on more powerful DB such as SQL Server (may be the new SQL Express can also be the first runner up). However the I still vote for Access Provider for following reasons, 1. It is much easier to
understand & manage the code with Access. 2. The Products, which does not have very high traffic (something like FMCG Companies) as well when you dont have no of products in two figures, the MS Access is equivally good. 3. The kind of people (like ours), who
wants to use the this store basically for the Demo, Access is better. Based on which we shall make the actual production site for the clients. 4. Having Access Provider, we shall use this module/PA to show this as "Catalogue Site" 5. Since I expect this module
to be the true DNN Module (hoping in the next version it would be in the core modules), it should support all the Data Providers, that DNN supports. When do you think the Access Data Provider would be ready ?
Indian guru : the core team has been talking for many months about how to deal with modules from the community and to add / not add to the core distribution, and we have unanimously agreed to limit / restrict the module set of offered module for a few reasons:
1. module authors make the modules and deserve the support, usage and compliments for their modules directly. this allows module developers to create a vibrant marketplace for components. 2. dnn is a volunteer effort, and modules are very time consumptive.
we decided to focus on the core, and to provide a stable set of default modules that showcase the functionality and features of dnn, without taking away from the creative endeavors of the community at large who depend on the custom modules. 3. support / patches
etc of modules are also very time consumptive, most developers have their own forums to host questions, or have a thread on these forums. the core team does not have resources to manage the countless problems of custom modules. for these and many more reasons,
i think you should keep working with the original module developers of this module (ais-ec) and try not to hope the module will be packaged in the core. even so, it should be a great aim to support the provider models as that will just open the door for more
compatibility later... Important Note: I am not sure if the community is aware of the fact that access dataprovider is going to be dropped from the core for the DNN 3.0 > packages. i beleive you can find more information on a pinned thread in the Core Framework
sub forums called "Breaking Changes". mark.

"Breaking Changes". could you please give some more details about this - I checked the other forums and found no reference to it. If it is true then it cuts a large number of the community from DNN.
maybe the core team could put a message up that access is not supported in 3.0 should save a number of the community from waiting for the new version. Shame - the fact that users who don't have sql facilities on their hosting packages have now been cut from
the upgrade - 2 steps forward 1.5 steps back for a updated version.
