Thanks Mike. I plan on grabbing the src and making the following changes to it: 1. A grid view where after the week is closed you can see all users and their picks. 2. Some kind of option to pick the total score for the last game fo the week. 3. A way to show
team name and/or a graphic (i.e. a football helmet) in place of just the team name. After I get this stuff done, I will pass the code back to Mike. Is anyone else doing any work on this? How do we go about coordinating it so as to not duplicate effort? Thanks,
Anthony
Anthony, I wanted to e-mail you, but you don't have an address registered in your profile. I do, so drop me a quick line - I'd like to chat about some ideas that you have. mike.
Anthony, I just finished the AccessDataProvider for this module and sent it to Mike. If you or Mike could send me the updates, I will incorporate them and redistribute the provider to Mike. Thanks Rob
I have the grid view working now. I'll use it myself until after this weekend and see how it fares. If all goes well I'll pass it along next week. I didn't make any changes to the DB stuff, as this was my 1st DNN project, I was a little intimidated... But if/when
we add the option to pick a score for the last game of the week, we'll probably need to modify the DB then. Anthony
Now that I have my pool running, it is clear to me we need a scheduling component that can be configured to email users to remind them to get their picks in. I've been reading about the Scheduler in DNN 2, I guess this is something that will have to be added...
Anyone else up to doing this? Otherwise I'm gonna have to try and get it done before next week :-( Cuz doing it manually REALLY SUCKS.
I did a bit of reading on the Scheduler when I was working on the pool. It didn't really seem like it would work that well for a reminder e-mail if you had a small website. It's still tied to the web, which is event-based. So, if you don't have many people
coming to your website, your notifications won't get sent out. I didn't pursue it very much because I didn't think that it would work very well for people that are hosting a small website. Maybe my understanding of the Scheduler is incorrect? What might be
easier is to build a simple page in the module that would allow an admin to send a reminder e-mail to everyone in the pool. Maybe the bulk e-mail feature of the portal could do this if the proper roles were assigned to the users (can it do role-based e-mails
yet?). mike.
Mike, I think you are on target with the scheduler. The event based method that the event scheduler uses does not quite fit with what is needed in the pool module as it stands now. However, if one was to cause an event to fire, say by having the pool admin
click a "Reminder" button, then the built in scheduler might be the quickest solution even for small sites. This is something that I will look into over the next day or so and post what I discover back here.
One other enhancement suggestion, we do an office fun pool during the college bowl season. Each person is allowed to submit up to 5 different bowl sheets. Right now from what I can tell, the module limits you to one selection person person. Any way to let the
admin set the number of sheets each person can have?
Well, I'm running one now that I just started last week. Basically trying to add a few features and work out a few bugs before the NFL season begins. What exactly do you mean by public?
