Hi, I downloaded the CSK a couple of months ago and quite like it (downloaded the CS version so i could add the freetextbox stuff to it - but really wanted the VB version as i know that better) But - viewing the forums for it i find i am being pushed towards
GCN as though this is an upgrade - but i am confused as to what the OmniPortal is and what it has to do with CSK. I checked out the www.gotcommunitynet.com site but there is very little there (even logged in) to explain anything. What i am looking for is an
updated version of CSK that i can download and install (preferably over the top of the existing version - upgrading it and keeping my existing content). I also desperately want a windows authenticated version as i want to get rid of the login option. - this
will be used on intranet site. Hope you can help Pk

OmniPortal is an unrelated project. Though it has a lot in common with the CSK and GCN it does not use the CSK code base. In many ways OmniPortal is superior in base architecture to the CSK/GCN. Nick Berardi, the mind behind OmniPortal is a regular contributer
to the GCN project and a regular poster here. The GCN 1.1 is an updated CSK code base and was designed to upgrade CSK sites in place (the upgrade process is documented in the GCN docs here: http://www.gotcommunitynet.com/documentation.htm under the installation
section). The GCN is not an official "starter kit" since it doesn't meet the requirements of a starter kit, but it is recognized by the ASPInsiders and Microsoft ASP.NET teams as an "official" upgrade as you can get.
GotDotNet Workspaces user Interface is far from being user friendly and I also had some difficulties finding the source code. Click on this link: http://www.gotdotnet.com/community/workspaces/default.aspx?id=39959859-68b5-4f5e-bd85-c1a8555e39a9 Then click on
releases( left part of the page; near top). You will see a link to the source code. Differences between CSK and GCN are well described in documentation For more info, search CSK and GCN forums.
Yes, the best way to see the difference is read the docs for 1.0, then read the docs for 1.1. the GotDotNet isn't userfriendly, but we're hopeful msoft will provide us with a source vault solution, NBerdi also has one that is nice.
Hi all, Its like Forums 2.0 around here isnt it One thing i would like to see is an intranet (windows auth) option. No need to login and creates the ue if they dont already exist. Cheers Pk Will look at the the docs when i get a mo - cheers
