Here are my observations so far trying to get this combination to work: I installed XP Home and VS.NET 2003 in VMWare. I then installed Cassini and tried to create a new web app. I was only successful once, and have not been able to reproduce it since. I also
get the same error that everyone else is getting. Visual Studio .NET cannot create or open the application. The likeliest problem is that required components are not installed on the local Web server. Run Visual Studio .NET setup and add the Web Development
component. Running FileMon, it shows that VS.NET is attempting to access the IIS Metabase using the IIS: moniker, which obviously requires IIS to be installed. I'm not sure how I was able to get it to work once. I even tried creating the project on XP
Pro, copying it to XP Home, opening it from VS.NET, and I get the same error message. I'm curious how Ghostnet is able to consistently do this. I'm assuming he knows for sure he's running XP Home. However, what version of VS.NET is he running? I tested this
with VS.NET 2003. Anyway... apologies to those trying to get XP Home, Cassini, and VS.NET working together. It appears this is not as easy as I had orginally imagined. All my work with Cassini has been on XP Professional. I'm trying to see if there's a minimal
set of files needed to trick VS.NET into thinking IIS is installed on XP Home. Short of copying the files from an XP Pro CD, I'm hoping all the files are part of the Service Pack. Again, I'll keep everyone posted on my progress. Kiliman
