Yeah but if you understand the different types of files (which for a simple web application, there are two, the HTML code in the .aspx and the code-behind in the .aspx.vb(or cs)), you can really create some really powerful applications. And, the intellisense
is such a great feature. In VS.NET 2003, it is lacking in intellisense, but in the VS.NET 2005 beta I've been using, it is now superb. What a time saver. All the code-behind is is a separate file for the code so the HTML page doesn't become too big. But if
you do want it simpler, try out web matrix. Brian

I am just starting out and using Net 2.0. If I understand this thread and what I have read, most of the comments are not for Net 2.0?? For example, Web Matrix is not for Net 2.0? Rather than using VS.Net, one would use Visual Web Development 2005?
It is most easy for newbie to get confused about comments relating to Net 1x versus comments relating to Net 2. I am starting to learn that they are quite different animals.
This thread was started years and years ago. That's why it may be a little confusing.
Web Matrix is ASP.NET 1.1 and is/was free.
Visual Web Developmer (VWD) is ASP.NET 2.0 and is free.
Visual Studio 2002 (VS) is ASP.NET 1.0 and costs money.
Visual Studio 2003 (VS) is ASP.NET 1.1 and costs money.
Visual Studio 2005 (VS) is ASP.NET 2.0 and costs money.
The main difference between VS and VWD is that VS has more functionality - search the web for the differences. For example, as far as I know, VWD does not support Visual SourceSafe (a tool used to handle multiple developers).
If you are just starting out, have a look at www.4GuysFromRolla.com. The website divides its articles in 1.1 and 2.0 so it may be a little less confusing.
Finally, in my opinion, VS2005 is the best editor. But it costs a lot of money. Therefore, for beginners, VWD is defenitelly the choice.
HTH.
I miss a time when programmers were real programmers, and not drag and drop artists!!
OK, that really helps. Also, one can get Visual Basic 2005 Express free as well. I assume that this will be useful with VWD 2005? The
www.4GuysFromRolla.com site is very nice.
It might be useful for this forum to consider more Net 2.0 only topics as well.

Am I anywhere on track? Tools for Net 2? Thanks.
