I thought it was better when the Top 10 was refreshed daily. It showed you what controls were interesting people at that time, even if they were new. Now it is just the same controls there everytime I visit. Maybe this changed when ASP.NET was awaiting a new
server to help out with the load? Personally, I think refreshing the Top 10 once a week would be excellent. They do that over at WebAttack.com, and the list never gets stale. Also, enforcing a version number change with an update would be ideal. I've seen
some developers continually top posting their controls even though they haven't changed them at all. I only say this because I get tempted to play along with that game as well, but haven't. If we all start playing that game, the update list will become meaningless.

Hi Joe, I'm not sure how the Top 10 is configured but we can take a look. There are a number of issues along these lines that we're exploring. The newly submitted section should not be reading from the lastupdate field. That said, people who want to beat the
system will find a way. Another issue is the number of characters to be allowed for the control name. Some people are adding descriptive text and markup to their control name, throwing off the page layout.

Ken, Yes, I am guilty of adding markup to the name field for WebMenu (a BR so that it would wrap). Somebody "fixed" it for me though. :-) Using markup at the beginning of the description field to get an edge in the category list view (adding flair) is getting
used a lot in the "Navigation" category. I was tempted to add stuff in there to "compete", and I did put an image in there for one update, but decided to remove it on the next update. I figured this is probably not what the admins of the site want to see,
but it's hard to ignore when your entry is surrounded by others with box shots and red text. Of course, markup in the description field is useful for doing doing bulleted lists, italics, etc. Perhaps a "short description" field without markup is worth considering,
and that field could be used in the category list view. I guess it's been a little chaotic for a while, it'll be good to see it tighten up. It is probably the first place people look for ASP.NET control listings. Regards, Joe
