  why not use Crystal Report

  Hi all: I am new to .net and plan to start a web project using .net tool. After looking at Reports Starter Kit, wondering why the kit not using Crystal report? I know CR cost a lot. Are there any other problems with CR for web reporting? Thanks in advance.

  Actually, CR comes with some versions of VS.NET. But to answer your question, I thought it was a terrible solution (other opinions may differ). In my testing with CR, it was: a) hard to implement b) didn't offer proper paging functionality c) font control was extremely shaky Using the reports SK and CSS, I was able to acheive much better control (though still not perfect), and I wasn't hampered by the CR reporting engine. Just my $0.02.

  With the Reports Starter Kit, you have a good starting point that you can easily extend to and customize for your needs.

  I'm working with the DotNetNuke portal combined with Crystal Enterprise for our sales force. Veeeerrrrryy nice, but only if you can for out the $10k :)

  Using the Reports SK, how would you tackle reporting needs such as Landscape and Legal sized paper?

  Pagination is definitely a shortcoming of the Reports Starter Kit. But then, I didn't have much luck with CR, either.

  You says - Crystal Enterprise is Veeerrrryy nice. Hmm... RAS can't manipulate with DataSet if it have BLOB field. CR for Net can work with only 3-5 request concurrently. But Report Starter Kit can't export to any formats - PDF, RTF etc :-(
