I just published my first MVC application to a shared host. Of course, everything works fine on my own development client and server machines.
The specific error is this: The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory
I don't want to enable directory browsing, but I tired it anyway to see if it would work, and the file contents of the root were displayed.

Provide readonly access to the folder.

To which folder?

With the help of the host admins, they suggested using <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">
This did enable the website to work now, but I am a little hesitant on using this.
Would there be any other alternatives?

In your server do you have the .net framework version on you dev machine?
You can try this:
How to fix “HTTP Error 403.14 – Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory”
Hope it helpful.
