Visual Web Developer 2010 Express has something called
"Installed Templates".
Within that category there is a section named "Sharepoint"
which when clicked displays "Sharepoint14".
The details pane in Sharepoint14 displays "Sharepoint 2010 Branding Project"
but when you click it an error messagebox appears stating:
"The project file c:\...<Project Name> cannot be opened.
The project type is not supported by this installation"
Since this option exist in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express
I thought you could develop a Sharepoint application using it.
There is also another category called "Online Templates" in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express
Within there, there is an option for "Sharepoint" and "Visual Studio Extensions"
which contains an "SPB" option and they all state they are a "Sharepoint 2010 Branding Project" but
when they are clicked they also display the same error messagebox as above:
"The project file c:\...<Project Name> cannot be opened.
The project type is not supported by this installation"
Prior to that I had installed "WSPBuilder Extensions 1.0.6".
It is thought that when you install "WSPBuilder Extensions 1.0.6" it
will integrate with Visual Studio automatically. It does integrate
automatically if you are using Visual Studio 2008 but does not integrate
automatically if you are using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, in fact
if you are using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express it does not even appear.
To summarize, the question is, to develop a Sharepoint application is there anyway to use the
Sharepoint options in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and if so how, or is there
any way to use "WSPBuilder Extensions 1.0.6" with Visual Web Developer 2010 Express to
develop a Sharepoint application?
Actually Visual Web Developer 2010 Express is the free version for 2010.
In Visual Web Developer 2010 Express if you select New - Project you will see
Recent Templates
Installed Templates
Visual Basic
Visual C#
Windows
Web
Cloud
Sharepoint
Sharepoint14
Silverlight
WCF
Online Templates
Templates
AJAX
ASP.NET
.
.
Sharepoint
SPB (A project for creating a Sharepoint 2010 branding wsp package, the package
inlcudes custom masterpage, minimalist ...
.
Visual Studio Extensions
.
SPB
So my question is whether the above visible options in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express
are actually functional and if so how to use them otherwise if they are not functional is
is there any way that WSPBuilder Extensions 1.0.6 can work together with Visual Web Developer 2010 Express
either integrated or separately to develop a Sharepoint 2010 application?

to develop sharepoint project, make sure that you are on the sharepoint application server, not your local machine
under VS
File -> New Project -> SharePoint -> 2010 or 2007 - under that there are multiple templates that you can choose from.
i do not however, have VWD, instead i have Ultimate.
i do not believe that VWD supports SharePoint development. you can check this out here
