Question: is there any situation where you can not delete a post? for example ... where other posts have linked to it in a thread?

Never seen a warning about such a thing so I don't think there's a a check on that. Most of the reasons why we take out posts are: spam, duplicates, necroposts, or per request of the user itself who happens to need that for some reason.

FWIW, there is a quick fix kludge that you can use as a short term fix while you are waiting for your post to be deleted ... simply
edit your post and replace your text with something like "Moderators, please delete this post/reply".

Please DO NOT do that. Doing so adds garbage to the site.

We wouldn't delete a post if it's on-topic, not a cross-post, and there is a reasonable question, and reasonable answers (especially marked answers( that people have spent time on. If the post is off-topic, contains PII, duplicate, spam, expletives, etc.
then it's fair game for deletion. Most requests for deletion fall into the latter group.
Terri, if removing the post were not urgent, i'd never use the kludge, however, imho, the kludge could be valuable if,
hypothetically, the poster accidentally put some highly sensitive information online or if someone had used the poster's computer behind the poster's back to post something that was
inappropriate.
regards,
Gerry

You can't delete posts, but you can use the Alert Moderators link in your post and ask us to delete it for you.

@ Mikedotnetting : I think there should be an option to allow user to delete even if it was marked as answer it will not reflect,
or another option to make a post hidden or private
thanks

Hi,
As mentioned that option is already there. Simply notify the moderation team about it. We'll investigate and take it out if needed.

For future reference, if you have a question, you should start your own thread rather than add it to someone else's question.
