Can you explain what you want to achieve in a more detail? What specifically are you having problems with?

I have no issue with getting the database results to showon the web page and I have added a like button to pages before but I'm nit sure where to start with a like button that links to a particular result from the database depending on the viewers choice.

Maybe you can use SqlDataAdapter to fill the DataTable, and in your SqlDataAdapter you should pass the filtering sql statement as a select condition.
And then call "Fill" method to Fill all the data contents into DataTable, and save the DataTable into ViewState.
Then bind to the GridView or something else.
In then end, plz handle the Paging event by saying——
GridView1.PageIndex = e.NewIndex;
GridView1.DataSource = (DataTable)ViewState["db"]; //Suppose db is the ViewState that saves the filtered DataTable result

Are you worried about the URL which will be dynamic? If so, you can get that in code from Request.Url, so where you have to set the Url in the button, you can do so like this:
<fb:like href="<%= Request.Url %>" layout="standard" show-faces="true" width="450" action="like" colorscheme="light" />
