Well mostly it's about principles and the code to fix the problems they illustrate. When I wrote it I tried not to limit myself to just webforms, or MVC, so the vast majority is, I hope, applicable to both. Of course somethings are specific, there's a chapter
for MVC specific stuff, and some bits on securing viewstate and other webforms artifacts, but generally you should be able to apply knowledge gained in both platforms.
Nice to have a direct message from yourself Barry. I've already purchased (and got my boss to re-imburse the cost of) your book and look forward to reading it as a start my journey into becoming a web security specialist (still a developer - of course).
Maybe this is a good chance to sell your blog/web site to me :P I haven't actually had a search for it yet.
I also think you have done some talks in the Uk or are based in the Uk? If so, that could also interest me.
Hope you have the time to reply, and hope I have lots of nice things to say about your book in a few weeks.
I used to be based in the UK, indeed if you'd attended any of the DDD events you would have had the chance to see me speak (excluding DDDs in Ireland, I just organised those).
However Microsoft snapped me up early this year, so I'm now in Redmond I'm afraid. I'm angling for a speaking budget this year, so I may try to get into TechEd Europe, it depends on my workload.
My blog is here - if anything in the book is unclear please feel free to contact me through it.

Does anyone know if this book is predominantly web-forms with a bit on MVC - or specific to neither and just has a specific chapter on MVC?
Cheers

Hi,
it doesn't show in the TOC: http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTitle/Beginning-ASP-NET-Security.productCd-0470743654,descCd-tableOfContents.html and when I downloaded some parts of the sample code I saw a Console application and in another webforms.
I think the book mainly discusses ASP.NET framework security which can both apply to webforms and MVC.

The final chapter is about security in the ASP.NET MVC framework

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

That's what I was aiming for anyway :)

Hi,
These forums are indeed not promoting illegal sharing of copyrighted books so don't share links or whatever around here.
