I'm sorry but I do not think the information you're quoting from GerryLowry's post is in any way related to what you were originally reporting.
Whan a MSFT member marks an answer, they would receive the one (1) point for doing the marking. The 10 answer points are still applied to the post being marked though. If i'm not mistaken, you thought you had not been awarded the 10 points for your answer. So in the context of this thread, it does not matter who did the marking. Regardless of who did the marking, the post being marked is the post that would receive the 10 points.
Keep in mind that the total points number you are looking represents all your posts and all your points. I'm not really sure how you could correlate your current points count back to a single post. Also as Kris had mentioned, if there is any issue/delay with the service that accumulates points in real time not updating your total account number immediately, those points would still land on your total score when the service that processes them catches up. It does seem that your points have moved forward.
