So I have moved my vs 2005 ASP.net 2.0 to Visual Web Developer 2008 Express and .NET 3.5. I have an issue I cannot get past and could use some help. Here is the message I get: I'm using the built in web server, at this point I don't have IIS enabled on the PC.

The funny thing is I replaced all the version= with 3.5.0.0 and I still get this error.

I also installed the AjaxControlToolKit for .NET 3.5 replaced the dll in my bin folder.

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Do you have a backup copy of your project?  When you opened it in VWD did it prompt you to convert it to a ASP.NET 3.5 application?  That may be a limitation of VWD but I do know the Pro version does that.  Is it on the same computer you did this?

You may have changed the version but the publickeytoken could be different.  Try this line instead:

<add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>

 I cannot understand why it is even finding this (Version=1.0.61025.0) when I replaced all of them with Version=3.5.0.0 on all pages in the project.

Do a Ctrl-F on your whole project and look for that string Version=..... and see where you find it. 

I have not yet figured this one out, can anyone offer any suggestions?

I have searched the entire solution and replaced all 1.0.61025.0 with 3.5.0.0, the new version for the Ajax Control Toolkit. I have also deleted all ASP temp files.
