As a newcomer I am uncertain as what is going wrong when I try to upload my Classifieds website. I get the error stated somewhere in the forum:
Runtime Error
Description:
An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local
server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors>
tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
I tried several of the suggestions but to no avail.
I started a new classifieds template and without any alteration, uploaded to my webhost (winhost) but get the same error.
I contacted winhost who informed that the webconfig needs alteration. I configd as per the above but it gets me to Error 501.
As a test, I installed and then uploaded "Small Business" start kit and this uploads and displays without any error. This leads me to believe that there is something that I am missing in the Classifieds configuration.
Why don't you set customErrors to Off in your web.config so you can see what exception is being thrown. That will help you figur out what is going wrong.
Please click Mark as Answer if my reply helped you.

I just don't understand why the default Classifieds template doesn't show in the browser, since I don't do any alteration at all, or is there any alteration that needs doing to webconfig before uploading the website to the host server?

Will the Classifieds Starter Kit run on your computer (Local Server) when you first start a new website from the template. When you run the "Welcome" page can you see "Default.aspx" on your local server?
I had the same error you are having when I first tried to start the CSK (I am using a different hosting company but maybe this will help). I followed procedures in this post to upload and connnect.
