No, your eyes aren't deceiving you. In our ongoing effort to address performance issues, we've removed the 16x16 avatars from the "Last Post" column on pages that contain lists of forums or lists of threads.
My current access point is slow, so I cannot comment on the performance improvement, however the text now flows better.
Its is a good change!
Click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helped you.

Thank you Terri. I know it must be frustrating to be chasing after the cause or causes behind the inconsistent performance. The site seems to be running well for me this evening and your efforts are much appreciated.
Personally, I really find the avatars extremely useful and I miss them very much.
Especially for people like yourself with unique avatars, it makes it so easy to very quickly identify your posts visually.

@ Terri, ???? did the 16x16 avatars actually slow the site down that much?
<li class='big_number1'><a href="/members/Augi.aspx"><span class="thumbnail_59_for_avatar"><img onload="this.onload = null;getAvatar(this,'http://static.asp.net/NeuAvatarHttpHandler.ashx?username=Augi&forceidenticon=False','True');" src="http://static.asp.net/asp.net/images/people/anonymous.gif" alt="" style="border-width:0px;" /></span></a>
<a href="/members/Augi.aspx">Augi</a>(24)
</li>
<li class=''><a href="/members/CW2.aspx"><span class="CommonSmallAvatar"><img onload="this.onload = null;getAvatar(this,'http://static.asp.net/NeuAvatarHttpHandler.ashx?username=CW2&forceidenticon=True','False');" src="http://static.asp.net/asp.net/images/people/anonymous.gif" alt="" style="border-width:0px;" /></span></a>
<a href="/members/CW2.aspx">CW2</a>(22)
</li>
The above examples are from http://forums.asp.net/1146.aspx "Top Answerers".
I think you could optimize them by dropping the "getAvatar" function ...
Personally, I really find the avatars extremely useful and I miss them very much.
