Why is it if a user doesn't mark a post as answer a MSFT moderator will go in, post nearly the same answer as someone else has hours, days or even weeks before, then the MSFT moderator marks their post as the answer? Kind of unfair in my opinion. I have
had several posts where the MSFT moderator has went in several days later and posted the same code (just formatted differently) and then proceeded to mark their post as the answer when it is clear the answer I (or others) posted was the correct and first answer.
Have this happen to you or have any thoughts?
Remember to mark as answer if this post answered or solved your problem.
I have not seen this myself, but I have been informed that they do monitor threads that have replies but nobody marked as answer and if the original question asker fails to correctly award you the mark then they will do it on your behalf.
Are you sure that it is the MSFT user that is marking their own answer? When a reply is made to a thread the asker gets an email afaik, it may trigger them to come back and mark the question themselves....

You are right .. but not all of them ..
It happened to me too, he just took my answer and reformat it to be a different answer !!
Not only MSFT, I surprised from other members here, he just open the topic that you already answer it , he copy your answer, and add new word and paste it to be a new answer !
I know many MVP that not participant in this forum, you can find them on yahoo .net forum , and they are awesome .. and I wondered why they are not interested in ASP.NET official forum !
Recently, I know the reason , they are not interested in collecting points, they just want to help you ..
So never mind my friend, do not care about collecting points, just try to help people :)
Plz remember to click "Mark as Answer" if this helped you.

Here is a post of mine I know I did not mark as answer as this is not what I was looking for. In fact, I have changed it to not resolved and marked the answer provided as not the answer at least twice.

Thanks for the info! I'm not worried about points but would like to provide other users with valid solutions. I have been working in a .NET and ASP.NET envorinment for about 5 years and this forum has helped me tremendously. The first thing I look for
is the green checkmark then the green Answer button. Again, could care less about the points as they have no value to me, just want to help others as I have been helped and get valid help in return.

I haven't seen this behavior yet but as suggested earlier, use the Report Abuse link to report it.

Its gives users a false hope to have the MSFT people mark as answer when it wasn't.
MSFTs among others monitor threads and if they see that a thread did not have any activity for some time (they say usually 48 hrs), they mark it as resolved. What I would suggest is to keep your thread active and keep posting till you have not recevied a
satisfactory answer. When you don't respond to a post in your thread, you are delaying getting a solution faster.
I agree with you about not marking a post as an answer just to make the thread resolved.
If there is no reply helping solving the problem, the member who posted the question should follow up the thread so that others could know the issue hasn't been closed, other wise, the thread can be come to No Status, and I guess MSFTs and moderators will
check it and mark thoes helpful replise as answers.
However, sometimes I could see a same link has been posted for many times by different members in one thread like Abdulla said. I can only assume that those who gives the same url hadn't read the whole thread but just google a link based on the first post
and others did the same again later and later. Anyway, these situations are happened always.
By the way, at least I haven't met the situation myself that a MSFT copied other's reply as their own answer and marked it themselves. This is terribly beyond unfaire.

I never saw such situation in the forum I'm most frequent. MSFT here is the most knowledgable and provides great info in his responses.
