this has happened on several occasions in the past as well. The mails themselves are not lost so once the service is up and running again expect to see your mailbox flooded. The most important thing however is that you can still reply to help out other members.

I always check replies to my posts like this. I don't see any issues with this approach.

What if this is very old post not on the first page?
I prefer the e-mail notification mechanism better. Also I see that forum's statistics is not updated.

if there is a reply post, it will be on first page. If some one changes "Status" of that thread, then it is an issue.
