After scouring the net for days looking for an example of using AJAX technology within a Chat Room interface, the closest i found was
http://www.dynamicajax.com/chat.php , but it still wasnt as advanced as i would have liked.
It was written in PHP, which i know nothing about and i wanted one in .NET, so i developed my own version from scratch based on his php work. Ive added many features, and fined tuned a lot of the code, but its still work in progress. All
suggestions are welcome.
You can see my working example here:
I managed to fully integrate it into a membership based database system, which was the whole plan in the frst place, and it works a treat.
One of the problems i had and really i still have a few bugs, is the Currently Logged in Chat users logic. im not an expert on .NET sessions yet, if anyone has any suggestions on how to keep track of logged in users, i would certainly appreciate
it. Im using cookie based session state.
If anybody would like a downloadable copy of my source once i reach a 'blackboxed' stage, leave me a message and i will keep you posted.

wow, fast response, and the articles where great, never looked at linq before. Although one if the reasons i submitted my post was because i did it using VB, i was originally looking for a VB version. But i can translate easy enough.
Thanks again, great job.
