We have a strange deployment issue here that keeps coming back: we do a build to UAT - all is fine. The same build goes to PROD, and one of the pages in the application comes up with http 404 Ressource Not Found error. If I open IIS, right click on the
file and select Browse..., I see this error. ?????? Obviously the file is there if I can right click it. To troubleshoot, we created a second site in IIS. When attempting to redirect from the old site, a dialog box comes up (which we developers who lack
server experience do not understand)...It is titled "Inheritance Overrides". It includes this message:
The following child nodes also define the value of the "UNC Password" property, which overrides the value you have just set. Please select from the list below those nodes that should use the new value.
There are two values in the list: "Rincon" which is a virtual dir for a third party .net app our company bought, and "ReturnAndRedirect.GetBOL.aspx" - this second value is the page that won't load. Is IIS seeing this page as a virtual directory? If so,
how or why? What is the UNC Password property? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks much.

I have learned some more....I opened the IIS file Metabase.xml and found this:
We don't know how this got there, but I'm guessing that if I remove this entry, our problem may be resolved? (will probably have to wait until late tonight as I will have to stop IIS to make the change).
If anyone can confirm, that would be great. Thanks.

well, we removed the metabase entry - no effect, problem persists. This issue has now consumed the entire day and officially become a royal pain in the butt. Time to open a ticket with Microsoft I guess.

If you believe this to be an IIS issue, use the IIS forums at
www.iis.net, same login as here.
