    Hi there helpers

I was wondering if someone who knows this subject well could maybe give me a few pointers.

I have done a lot of reading on getting better search results on the net and one of the methods includes using meta tags effectively. But now, using a masterpage, will that still be effective as I have only one masterpage, thus only one page where I can place my metatags (since I can't do this in normal aspx pages).

Can you please share your experience with me, thanks

    Hi,

Changing the master pages title tag wont do anything to the other pages. You need to go to the other pages say default.aspx and you will see that in the top line of code at the end it says title="". That is where you put title and you can do that for each page.

As for meta tags im not sure ill have to look into that one. But i dont think it matters anyway as meta tags wont really help your SEO.

    SEO tips

    1. URL has your keyword in it

    2. title tag has keyword in it

    3. create as many relative backlinks with high PR's as you can

    Hope this helps dude

Another cool way to use master pages with SEO Meta Tags is to have a content area where the meta tags would normally be. Then in the derived pages populate the content section with the page specific meta data.

Also, always use a sitemap and upload it to google using their webmaster tools.

Also other important thing in search engine Ranking is the Page design. Do not use to many nested tables to design ur page. Search engines could not follow it.

    Hello,

The only tags that are truly important for SEO are your title tag, description meta tag and keywords meta tag.

Title - I'm pretty sure you know how to set this per page - which you should always do.

Keywords - usually best set in the master page as they will be the same site wide in most cases.

Finally description, this is usually best set as different on each page using a contentplaceholder in the head section, though having the same description is only a problem if you expect more than just your home page to show up in the results. So if you have two pages coming up in the results, there is a chance that the second may not use the same description in those results. Having the same description for different pages won't directly influence your ranking, only how the second entry may look in the results.

    Hope this helps.

Totally agree, alot of people say meta tags dont work, google doesnt use them for its indexing but if you do a search on google you can see that the link and the description both have highlighted words which correspond to the search words. And if you notice that the link connects with the title and description with meta tag description.

Another very important factor is the url, if you name your pages according to the keyword on that page that will help also.

There should really be a category for SEO on this site, i know it isnt to do with asp but it still fits in.
