Visual Studio 2008 doesn't work correctly for me.  Hotfix installed successfully (checked version information after install) but nothing has changed.

Even creating a completly new WebApp, the default form that is created takes over a minute to allow me to add a control in design mode.  Source mode is immediate and works fine, but when I switch back to Design mode, it takes fore ever.

I have a very large form in a different WebAPP developed in Visual Studio 2003 that I converted to Visual Studio 2008, and it works fine.

    I am using Vista Ultimate

    Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001

Intel Quad CPU 2400 MHZ 1600 MHZ DDR3 memory

    Rock Chalk Jayhawker,

I'm having the same issue. I've tried the hotfix, disabling HTML validation, and diabled check for publisher's certification revocation. Nothing has helped. A very simple page can take me 4 minutes to load before I can type again.

I have XP Pro and I"m using Visual Studio 2008.

I'm really at a loss. Thanks for any advice.

I still haven't found a solution.  I also have Visual Studio 2008 on my LapTop, and it doesn't have the problems.  It uses XP Pro, but has IIS 6.0.  What version of IIs do you have installed.  My main machine is Vista Ultimate  with SP 1, running both IIs 6 and IIS 7.  I installed very ealry versions on it before the full version was released.  Did you do the same, or is yours a fresh install.  I was starting to belive my laptop works becaus it has no legacy stuff on it, but if yours is a fresh install, and doesnt' work, it blows my theory out.

Typing and first control drop are known performance issues. We are working on fixing them in the next update.

    Thanks

Any idea of when it will be available.  I am really needing it to work, being so backed up now trying to do everything with old versions of VS instead

My desktop is actually using IIS 5.1 on an XP Pro machine.

I have VS2008 at home with XP Pro and there's no problem (I *think* that machine has IIS 6.0).

This was a clean install. I mean, I had VS2003 and used it fine. I installed VS2005, but really never used it, choosing instead to jump straight to VS2008.

My problem is simple, but horrible:

    1. I open an aspx page, even simple ones (by default, it's in source mode so I see only HTML etc).
    2. I click the Design view, and Visual Studio locks up for up to 4 minutes (usually 1.5 or 2 minutes after hotfix) and the devenv.exe eats about 50% of the cpu.
    3. Eventually, it comes back. But if I make a change and switch back and forth, it happens all over again.

    Thanks for any help.

Your problem is exactly the same as mine, and I don't think Microsoft has a fix yet.  Let me konw if you come up with anything, and I will do the same.

If you haven't installed the performance hotfix, install it immediately.  See the first post in the forum for download instructions.

It seems to "improve" performance on this issue (somewhat) and also improves many other performance issues.  One big one that kept causing me grief was the intellisense for a javascript file.  It used to take several minutes on some of my .js files but now it's nearly instantaneous.

I'm looking forward to VS2008 SP1 and hope it has fixes for the remainder of the performance issues.

Is there a new hotfix out, or are you referring to the one that was released a month ago?  I installed it, verified that it installed correctly, and it didn't make any difference for me.  If there is a new one avaiable, I can't find the link to it.

     Thanks

That's the one.  Sorry, I didn't notice the "even after applying Hotfix" in subject.

Like I said, it didn't "fix" the problem for me but it did "improve" it.

Not that it helps anything, but count me in, too. For me, working in VS 2008 Web designer is more like an exercise in suffering and patience than development work at the moment.

Is there any timeframe for a possible ultimate fix for the problem known ? I hope it is not as late as SP1, if I take into consideration how long it took for the VS 2005 and VS 2003 SP1's to be released...

Question: do any of you have Office 2007 installed?

Three of us here have this problem and we all have Office 2007 installed along with VS2008. One of us has no issues with VS2008, but he has Office 2003.

    Just a theory.

Yes, I do have Office 2007 installed on the system that I have a problem with, but not the one that I don't.  I thought it might be Windows Vista related until I found out the people have problems with Windows XP as well.  I hadn't thought to ask what version of office they were using.

Same for me. Office 2007 and Vista SP1. I'll try it on my XP/Office 2003 machine as soon as I'm at the office again.
