While the behavior is the same as this post: http://forums.asp.net/t/1238639.aspx my environment is not.

I just installed VS2008 Standard (Again).  Anytime I attempt to open a Website over ftp, the VS2008 spends about 15 minutes opening. I can see the files in Solution Explorer. Upon any click to open a file, VS2008 just hangs.  I can work on any other open application on my system.  Process Control indicates VS2008 is using (variably) 2% to 5% CPU.

Anyone else had the same issue with a solution to suggest?

Why don't computers do what I want them to do instead of....what I tell them to do!?!?!?

Most probably the issue is somewhere in the FTP connection. Unfortunately, opening site over FTP is happing in the Main thread so if connection stalls it frezees the IDE. Perhaps it is better to have a copy if the site locally and opening it from disk.

    Thanks

    Thanks for your suggestion Mikhail.

I have no problem with my ftp connections in VS2005.  I had so many problems with developing locally, then deploying that I have used ftp almost exclusively for the past year.  Regardless, anything I work on through ftp is cached locally.

I will attempt to set up a new local website with VS2008 when I get some free time.  I can't afford to spend any more time attempting to use 2008 right now.  I wasted too many days last week with VS2008.

By the way, Mikhail, I really appreciate your responding to my challenges of last week.
