I've just installed 2008 beta on a new XP installation.
I'm getting an "Error creating control" in Design mode for a contentplaceholder on the masterpage. It says "contentplaceholder can only be used in .master files"
Here is the code (from .net tutorial: How Do I Implement Site Navigation in ASP.NET)
Is this a beta2 bug?

The contentplaceholder is only used on the master page, if the page's type is not .master, it always give the error message "contentplaceholder can only be used in .master files".
I have a test on the windows xp platform and create a master page, and drag and drop a contentplaceholder control to the master page, these are work fine, no any error message.
I used the vs 2008 RTM not beta 2.
As you say, it maybe a beta2 bug.( But I didnot test it with Beta2), but all are ok in the RTM.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, I think it's a Design-mode bug.
I've not changed anything, but when I closed the project and then opened it again, the error did not occur.
I've just discovered the CTRL+K+D formatting shortcut, if it happens again I'll see if that fixes it...
