A lot of good responses in this forums are marked as answer. But who does this? In the Mobile and Handheld Devices forum we have a lot of valuable responses witch are not marked as answers.

The original person that posted the question must mark the post as 'answered'

the original posters who started the thread, moderators, MVP's and MSFT community helpers have the ability to mark a post as answered. But I mostly see the MSFT people marking the posts as answered (which can sometimes lead to discussion).

Personally I find indeed that it's the responsibility of the original poster but a lot of people only post a question here once which gets a valid answer and they never come back to take a look at it. I myself don't scour around to mark posts as answers, I already have enough work just moderating and moving posts to better suited forums. And like I said, mostly the MSFT community helpers mark the posts as answered if they judge it to be the correct answer.

now we have the same situation again as last year in the Mobile and Handheld Devices forum. After helpfull posts were marked as answer now they are no more marked. The reason may be that the Microsoft Online Coummunity Support seems to have left this forum.

I have lots of valuable answers too that they did not mark it as the answer, At first i feel the same way as you feel but I realize that this a Forum which People are Helping People..so when you help you don't have to expect something in return. What i mean is that forget about it.. marking as answers to my post doesn't matter to me. I'm basically here for Helping other people ,making friends and learn things.
