I've downloaded the Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/.  It installed just fine on Windows XP and I have it working in VWD on that PC.  However, when I try to install it on my Vista (Ultimate) PC, which is where I really need it working, the installer goes through several steps of the installation, but I get the following error in a dialog before the installation completes:

Microsoft Reporting Add-In Setup

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.
A program run as part of the setup did not finish as
expected.  Contact your support personnel or package
vendor.

This has me baffled.  Anyone seen this before?  Any ideas?

Have you applied “Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions Service Pack 1” and “Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista”? I hope it is helpful to you.

Thank you for your response, Benson.  I did have both installed when I got this error.  However, prior to finding this Add-In, I had also installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services AND Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit.  I realized in playing with the SSRS Toolkit that the reports generated are for use with a designated reporting server rather than an ASP .NET application.  Therefore, uninstalled the toolkit to install this Reporting Add-In.  However, I got the error noted above.  So, I thought it would be best to clean out the VS and SS installations and reinstall.  So, I uninstalled VWD and SQL Server (and the toolkit).

Then I reinstalled:

• Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services
• Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition
• Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005 Express Editions Service Pack 1
• Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista
• Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express

However, I received the same error.  At that point, I posted my original message.  Since your reply, I have repeated the uninstall and re-install given the links specified in your message (which I believe to be the same SP's that I installed originally).  However, I am still getting the error.

My theory is that something with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit either did not uninstall correctly or left a residual configuration that is causing a problem with the Add-In.  However, that is a guess...but all that I can come up with.

Do you have any ideas of what I can do?  Or perhaps an uninstall checklist that I can follow to ensure that everything is correctly uninstalled before I can reinstall again?
