Man this is bugging me! I am getting this error message on an application on several different servers. Weird thing is that it doesn't always happen. Sometimes the app works correctly.
I'm sure some of you are thinking I need to give more information but that's just it - I can't narrow anything down. I mean the response is literally
<html><head><title>Error</title></head><body>The handle is invalid.</body></html>
I seriously have not been able to pin down any possible reason for this.

Do you get a stack trace or anything?
This looks to me like a user created error not something thrown by IIS or ASP.NET.
Do a search through your entire code base for that string.

Thanks for your reply.
No, I don't get a stack trace. This is what's got me so confused. I don't have custom errors turned on so if there's an exception it shouldn't be redirecting. But all I get is Error in the title and "The handle is invalid." in the body and that's it,
I did search for that string as you suggested but didn't find it.
It seems to me that the exception has to have been thrown before the request reaches the application so I'm thinking it's IIS.

Hope it helps,

Thank you Jessica. Actually we figured out the issue today and I just forgot to come close the thread.
As it turned out it was the authentication service we use which is built in something other than .net. I'm not sure as I'm not in charge of support for it. But I was relieved to find out it wasn't anything I had done.
