i am following the lesson 5 for absoloute beginners and it says to start debugging, i have noticed before but did not really care but when it launches IE7 the debugging menu appears for, say, 2 secs and then returns to the design view.

its really getting on my nerves now because i can't follow the tutorial, hope you can help.

From your description, I understand that the “Debug” menu disappear after IE lunch. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

I don’t know why the “Debug” menu disappears. I suggest you to use the toolbar when debugging as a workaround. If the “Debug” toolbar doesn’t exist, please right the blank area of toolbar and select “Debug” in the content menu.
