I have a website hosted with godaddy. I am still working on some features of it. Recently i formated my system and i've lost the sql files that created the db on godaddy through query analyzer. I need the db now as i need to add more tables and make a
few changes. I am new to this and i do not know how i can copy the website db on godaddy to my local machine? I did not find godaddy help much useful for a starter like me.
What are the various ways i can copy database from my host(can i create a sql file from db on hosting site to run on my local pc or what are other methods to copy the db)?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Well with my web host I could just ask them for a .bak of my DB so I could simply restore it to my local copy of em on my machine, or go in their control center and do it my self.

If your GoDaddy site is shared hosting, then unfortunately their SQL Server control panel will not let you save a backup of the database you can grab. Here are two choices.
(1) Export the SQL script of each database object (tables, procedures etc) individual. For example, in the Tables explorer which displays the list of tables in a grid format, there is an icon marked SQL on the right which generates the SQL script for the
table. You can work through each table, view, stored procedure etc, generating and saving the SQL. Yes, this is tedious.
(2) Ask GoDaddy to provide you with a database backup file. GoDaddy charges for this service - you can make the request via their customer support.

I tried what you said, but there isn't an icon marked sql (to generate sql fro the table) on the right side in the grid showing all the tables, though thre are icons like show contents and show structure etc etc.. for the tables.
I had contacted the godaddy support to make a backup of the db and this is what they replied
I contacted godaddy support to know how to make a backup of my site database from their system This is what the support replied:-
"Unfortunately, you cannot obtain an actual backup, but you can export the information from the database.
To export the data from your MS SQL Database, please follow the instructions below:
First, log into your customer account:
Go to the Go Daddy Account Login Page.
Log in using your account username (which may be the same as your customer number) and password.
If you have trouble logging in, our password reset form may help you.
You can find this form through the following link: Password Reset Form
Once logged in just follow these steps:
. Select 'Web Hosting & Databases' from the 'Hosting & Email' menu at the top of the page.
. Click the 'Open' link under the Control panel heading for the hosting account which holds your database.
. Click the button for the type of database you are attempting to manage.
. Click the 'Open Manager' button.
. Click on the subcategory called "Connection"
. Enter your username and password to the right and click "connect"
. Once connected, select the (+) next to the database you want to export under the "databases" folder on the left.
. Select the "Tables" subcategory
. Click on the icon for "Content" on the right. The options for "export as csv" and "export as XML" are available as icons to the right of "actions"
Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way."
I tired what they said, their solution doesn't do anything much more than giving me names of columns( just names, no table name, no data types , no constraints etc etc...) that is it just gave me a file that i was able to open in notepad and see only the columns
for one particular table that i exported.
Also, I would like to mention that the only things under tools available in godaddy control panel for sql server databases are:
2)Generate insert scripts
3)CSV import wizard
D o u think that these tools are suffcient to help me make a database backup? What else can i do?? Please help.

The instructions I gave you to generate SQL scripts relate to SQL Server 2005 on GoDaddy. All new SQL Server databases on that hosting site are SQL Server 2005 as from within the last few months, and the control panel is slightly different.
You have a SQL Server 2000 database, and yes - there is no option within the interface to generate SQL scripts.
The instructions you got from Go Daddy are for getting the data within tables - if all you see are the column headings then you have empty tables.
You can't use the control panel to make a real backup i.e. a file containing all structures and data that you can easily restore into a SQL Server on your PC. The SQL scripts that the other interface generates are the full "create table" syntax, but unfortunately
not available to you with the 2000 interface. Unfortunately your only option is that someone uses the tools to examine each table structure (this can be done with the interface) and recreate the creation statements by hand - that takes a fair bit of SQL knowledge.
If you don't have the knowledge, then obviously you'll need to get someone else to do it. Depending on the number of database objects, you might be able to get someone to do it for under 50 bucks on a contract site like

In my opinion godaddy hosting is a joke. They should focus on their services about domain reg and not hosting. There are a lot of people here that complain about godaddy hosting. Sorry.
