    Hello Everyone,

First off, I want to take the time to thank those who take the time to read this message and help me out, being I just beginning to learn Asp.

Ok, so, I've been experimenting with the small business starter kit.  And I am having some troubles understanding how the news updates work.  I realize that I could just type in and change the news manually, but I assume that the whole point of using asp is to be able to store, retrieve, and update through a sql database.  I've gone into the database explorer, and edited the news database with the content I want to appear... then I run the website, and it doesn't update the news section... can somebody please help, I have just started the Asp.net tutorials, but being that I already started that, I'm the type of person who wants to fix this.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Thanks

The small business site has the option of reading from the database or from xml files, and as installed it uses xml files.

    Look at App_Data/News.xml

You can change the web.config file to switch between using XML and SQL Server for news, products, people, and testimonials.

I'm still confused, but now I'm confused on a higher plane.

Just getting started with the SBSK and first thing I notice is it seems to be taking it's info from the xml files, not the mdf.  I see in this post LockH says you can change the web.config to switch to SQL but I haven't yet been able to find anywhere that says how to do that.  Can someone point/explain?  I kinda thought the point of the starter kits was to get you going with VWD and SQL Express.  Is there a FAQ or readme I'm missing?  I read the welcome.html but at my level (Expression user) I'm missing too many pieces to get it, it seems to say more about xml than SQL.

     Thanks much,

     Matthew

Oops, got that, I think.  Edited the providers line from "xml...." to "sql....".  On to the next bump.  Thanks.
