    Hi,

Why is this web site constantly slow?  Every time I view a forum, view my recent posts, post a message, pick my nose (well ok, not this one) I am forced to sit and wait for an average of 45 seconds to a minute.  I am not exagurating either.  I know it's not my internet.  I am aware of the number of users here, but still, this wait is often so ridiculous!  Especially when posting a message, and I click "Post"  it always takes more than a minute to refresh the thread I just posted to.

You would think a forum dedicated to web applications would have much better performance than this does.  I think it is all due to the fluff.  I mean, the top of the page (navigation) loads quickly, but the content takes forever.  I dont expect you to change the design of the site or anything, but it would be nice to have maybe a lighter version, possible text only.

I dont know, but if I was a JSP/ColdFusion programmer, and wanted to start with ASP.NET, if I came to these forums for help and realized how slow it was, it would give a pretty bad impression on the performance of ASP.NET

    Something to consider.........

I've noticed this, too.  But it isn't the post that takes that long! It's almost as if the page was designed to make you wait.

Try posting a message, then give the page 3 seconds or so. Click on the MyPosts link at the top, and you should see that the new post is at the top of your list.

This problem is definitely annoying, though. I have to have 3 tabs open to this site at the same time in order to not go nuts during the wait.

    Hi Guys,

I agree with you and somehow I have this hunch that the ASP.NET 2.0 profile feature may be one of the causes for this. I have seen severe performance degradation while using Profiles on sites with large number of members.

I would love to know how the CS is configured for this particular site, is load balancing being used, are any load tests being done,..etc. Lots of interesting questions. I think someone must be working on the bottlenecks to see real reasons behind the slowness of this site. It would be good if the same are shared with us for the benefit of all.

ps2goat:  agreed.  I am following the exact same method: 3 tabs open, pressing post, waiting a couple seconds and then going to my posts.  Can't believe others are doing the same thing!  Yeah, I truly dislike the slowness of this site.  It almost makes me reluctant to post replies.  Pretty unfortunate....
