I just download Web Developer 2006. I was trying to access the Web Site Administration tool, and I get an error saying that “An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again. I try over and over, but I can’t get to work. I clicked on “How do I Use this Tool”, and I see and error saying that “Tool Has Time out” – “As a security measure, the Web Site Administration tool times out after a period of inactivity. Changes to machine.config or web.config may also result in the tool needing to be restarted. To continue configuring you web site, restart the tool.” I restarted more than three time, but it did not help.

  I'm really not up on the express tools, but I saw that your question has gone unanswerd for a few days, so here goes.  If I recall, the tool is accessed as an aspx page through your localhost, so you'll want to make sure you have  browser options like allowing script and cookies set accordingly.  I don't know if you need to aspnet_regsql.exe and make sure that you have SQL Server Express loaded if it wasn't already. (explore your hard drive and or control panel  - add/remove programs to see find these, and search msdn2.microsoft.com to see how and why to use them). 

  If none of this helps search for info on the tool in MSDN.

        Search these forums using appropriate keywords

        Then, if you're still stumped, try resubmitting your question.  Getting someone to see answer a post is a bit of luck and timing, so if you need to, repost (maybe with different subject line or phrasing), after a few days with no answer.

I've been looking all over the place. I am going to install visual express edition on a different PC and see if I get the same error. Thank you for you replay and advice.

 I had a similar problem and strangely enough as I was testing I had other firefox windows open and I would get the error when those windows were open

I closed all other windows and ran the admin tool and it worked fine.

It's a good idea to look at Firefox as a possible source of issues with MS apps.  I use FF by default, but sometimesfind problems with MS sites, apps and content.  There's a FF extension called IE Tab that lets you switch the rendering engine on the fly.  Sometimes this is enough to set things right.

I'd also keep an eye open to conflicts with express editions, when you also have full editions on the system.  Getting SQL Server Management Suite to install was a chore, until I searched and found a way to drop the Express edition tools first.  SQL Express gets installed automatically with certain other apps, so you may even forget it's there - and may be causing issues with standard edition products.
