New to dotnetnuke and know just enough about websites to be lethal. Contracted with godaddy.com and instlaled DNN software for club site. Long story short, godaddy support doesn't. Someone on their end created a new index file. Due to too many hands involved
in web construction, had to delete the software and re-install; made a new virtual directory. Site is coming along nicely, however, my domain is still pointed to the original, screwed-up website. Godaddy support insists they can't help me and shouldn't have
earlier, I have to figure it out.
I am not a programmer or developer, I am someone who knows more about using a computer than the other two guys in the office. I am now stuck with one website that looks o.k. but no one can see it (have tried redirecting, but doesn't work) and the public website
that everyone we know is going to but is seeing a message it doesn't exist. Not good for business.
Godaddy says contact DNN. I can't download software from dnn site because I attempted to download visual studio express to use asp.net and something went haywire; now I can't uninstall it because it is missing a file and can't install new stuff over it.
What do I do to create a new index page so my website is visible to everyone else? And, any suggestions on leaving godaddy.com to use a different host?
You have a lot of issues listed here. First, an improper install of Visual Web Developer won't affect downloading anything from the DNN site. Second, there is a GoDaddy walkthrough for installing DNN in the forums, do a search for it. Third, you don't
tell us that your "website that looks okay" is on GoDaddy or if it's internal to your network, a big difference when it comes to troubleshooting. And fourth, if the public is getting the wrong web site when they try to go to your GoDaddy site, no host will
fix that for you, you have a DNS problem.
Since you're not a programmer or developer, you'll likely be unhappy with DNN. It's a framework to create a web site, not a web site itself. You'll be much happier with GoDaddy's built-in web site creation tools. If you need another host, there are hundreds
out there that cater to users such as yourself. WebHost4Life is one that both has a DNN setup you can request and a wizard to create a site for you.
