Not able to access Registry Key

Hi all,

I am currently running my ASP .Net Solution in Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine. I am not able to access the manually created Registry key through C# Code.

The new Registry Key has been created under HKLM\Software\Microsoft. KeyName =’A’.

RegistryKey RepKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("software").OpenSubKey("microsoft").OpenSubKey("A");

OpenSubKey method returns null although there is valid Registry Key.

Whereas, the method returns the valid key when same solution is run on windows Xp Machine. I am able to access the Registry key in Form Application too in Windows Server 2008 R2.

Has anyone faced the similar issue?

Regasm Stability Problem on Windows 2003 Server

Hello,

I'm having an issue with the v2.0.50727 regasm tool. I have 2 dlls that I add to the registry with regasm. I then restart IIS (6) on the server. My app can call methods in the dll for awhile it seems, then for no apparent reason I get the server error that basically means 'not found' (I can't remember the specific error number returned to the browser).

I then re-register my dlls and restart IIS, and it's working again. Then, I reboot the server and it's broken again. Can anyone shed some light on why this seems so flakey? I have a release next week that my work is going into and I'm about to send Microsoft some hate mail if I don't get this stablized soon.

I was having similar issues. Tnx to Randys post i solved it.

I used the: RegistryCleaner he recomand and it solve my problems and some other Registry issue i had

tnx randy u just saved me from formating my computer.

This code will modify registry key for the window title of internet explorer. If it does not already exist it will create it. For this to work your web sites needs to be in the "Trusted Zone" in internet explorer on all your clients computers.

aspnet_setreg Registry encryption issue

I'm in the process of testing the encryption method of using aspnet_setreg in .net 1.1 to establish a encrypted connection string. To read the registry you have to give ASPNET user read access to that specific registry or a security error occurs.

The testing is now on a DEV server that is Windows 2003 using 6.0 IIS. From the following reading instead of using ASPNET user I should have to use NETWORK SERVICE to give read access to the registry. Here is the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329290

I haven't had the chance to test using this name because we dont have access to the DEV server, the server people have to test if for us. But has anyone had experience with this and instead used NETWORK Service instead of ASPNET user to read a registry or something?

IIS - AppPool Identity vs Registry - HKEY_CURRENT_USER

My web application is using ad hoc AppPool(IIS6) using as identity a specific user(User1).

Into this web app. I need to read/write a Registry Key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

I thought key red by my application, runnign under User1 based AppPool Identity, is same as User1 is logged on the machine...but is not...

rather than my web app is running under User1, key registry reead/write is always: HKEY_USER -> .DEFAULT also if my C# is calling HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey hiveKey = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.CurrentUser;

..why??

I'm also using same code into a service, running under User1, and what happend is what I aspected: HKEY_CURRENT_USER belong to user under who is running the service, in fact User1... why is not the same for AppPool?

avoid unnecessary dll files to access

Hi i need some guideliness from u guys,

See i have created one project, it contained lot of sub modules...,

Take example, i created one ERP package...,

In that HR, Payroll, Filemanagement like this sub modules will be there...,

This all the things, i have in one project and the dll file name is project name...,

Now my question is, i like to differentiate the modules...,

It mean, while accesing my project "Enduser" will interacting with that one dll file...,

Suppose lot of enduser will interact this one dll, then it will be critical, then the process will be slow down...,

So i like to create each module as separate , separate dll's...,

so when the user interact with dll using his "Id" and "pwd", if he have to rights to access another dll, he can access else he wont disturb that dll...,

Example the enduser can have rights only HR and Payroll then he can interact with that 2 dll's only...,

So it will avoid enduser to access all the dll's & we can make process spead also high...,

How to procedure this?,

I dont have any team members with me,I am building this project alone,

So i like to share with u guys how to solve this probs...,

Enduser accessing that single dll using his id and pwd, now i want the above format,

For that what i have to do?, and how to achieve this one?,

Application Pool and Registry permissions

Hi guys

I know this has been discussed a lot. However, not in the detail I'd like to and after browsing through x-hundrets of articles I though I gonna past it here.

I wrote an application, which needs to read and write to the registry. After creating the Virtual Directory ("WebAd") I created an Application Pool called "RegSec" and specified an ads user account to identify with. This user is local admin and there are no restrictions to his permissions.

However, when running my application, reading of the registry works fine, but when writing I get the Message:Cannot write to the registry key".

It appears that it is not clear to me, how this happens, as the user I specified as Identity in the application pool is local Admin and that application pool has been assigned to the virtual directory.

What I want to achieve is the following:
Create an Application Pool, through which permissions are granted to any Virtual Directories that have this application pool assigned (so if I specify a user account which is member of the local admin group, all grants, including writing to the registry, should be there).
I preferrably don't want to bother anywhere else but in the application pool and also I don't want to assign the NETWORK SERVICE permissions on the registry.

Is this possible the way I want this to work? If not, has anyone an Idea how I could achieve that in a very similar way (w/o hacking registry)?

Items no longer being added to Project MRU list and File MRU list

Like most people, I get tired of the accumulation of projects in the "Recent Projects" list when I start up Visual Web Developer. Today I went in to the registry and cleared both the project list and file list at the following locations:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VWDExpress\8.0\ProjectMRUList
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VWDExpress\8.0\FileMRUList

I've done this a few times before and it's been fine. However, for some reason this time the lists are broken in some way. When I use VWD, it no longer adds items to either of these lists. It's as if VWD can't (or just won't) add things any more.

In the mean time, I've hacked the ProjectMRUList to have the paths to the projects I'm working on just now, but that won't be a good long-term solution.

I really don't think I deleted anything else in the registry, I'm pretty careful with it.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?
