Having adopted LINQ with the first CTP in 2006, Genome has now switched over entirely, using LINQ as its primary query language. As a unique advantage on top of LINQ’s capabilities, Genome allows you to encapsulate and reuse query logic in your domain models.

This release of Genome also brings you a number of extensions and improvements:

GDMX: customisable database management extensions for database/schema comparisons that support both forward and reverse engineering.

GMX: a framework of customisable messaging extensions to help you create distributed service-oriented applications. GMX supports any type of communication architecture (e.g. WCF, JSON) where data transfer objects are composed (partially) of server-side Genome mapped business entities on the service interface.

GRIP: Genome’s rapid interface prototyping has also been extended to scaffolding, so that you can now generate customised UIs for ASP.NET with Microsoft’s Text Templating Transformation Toolkit (T4).

Well, after having made considerable changes since the last version, I'm pleased to announce that V2 is now in an advanced beta stage and is available for download.

A brief outline of what the last version was capable of can be found here:

http://www.flixon.com/site-generator/

The new features since version 1 include:

Entity 'style' relationship model. This allows for one to many, many-many and parent/child (as well as child parent) relationships to be modelled.

New improved interface which stores previous entries for easy re-runs

New template set which visually presents the foreignkey fields as readable attributes from the primary table.

Full lazy-loading of objects.

Custom List<T> objects that can be serialised in/out to an xml stream, maintaining all child objects

These are just a few of the very worthwhile highlights in V2. Why are you still sitting there, you can download the entire version from:

http://www.originaltalent.com/downloads/FlixonV3.06.zip

And you can download a (rough and ready) version of the user-guide from here:

http://www.originaltalent.com/downloads/SiteGenerator.doc

To see an example of the generator after being run against the Ubiquitous 'Northwind' database, click below:

http://site412.mysite4now.net/jimibt/giftedgeezer/Nwind/Admin/

Ok, happy downloading and playing. I look fwd to comments on both the concepts and changes included in this version.

Please note that to take advantage of the many new features that were rolled into SQLServer2005, 2005 is the lowest supported database version that the Site Generator is compatable with. There are no plans (yet) to make it backward compatable to SqlServer 2000. I apologise for this but will take it into consideration if there is a strong case supporting 2000 compatability.

Cheers for now

[edit 04-Dec-2008] - V3.06 now available for download.

jim

delivering lean, clean, extensible UI code. More complex business logic can be
introduced to Genome mapped object-oriented middle tiers with ease. But Genome takes O/RM a step further:

Encapsulate and reuse
query logic without
paying a performance penalty

Rely on professional support and services
