CSS problem in 3rd party template on this site

I have posted something similar to this before, but now I am willing offer a reward for whomever can come up with the solution to this.

On this site in the MVC templates/designs, there is a template called "October" by David Hauser. I have emailed him and haven't heard anything back. If you look at the screen shot he provides, the navigation menu is horizontal and looks nice. I am using his template, have NOT changed anything, and the navigation menu goes vertical all the way over to the login button. If I change the CSS menu display blocks to just "inline" from "inline-block" this makes to menu horizontal, but there is a nasty little grey line to the right of each menu item that won't go away.

Also, something that has been happening to me recently in VS 2008 SP1 is that when I change my site's CSS file, and debug the changes don't show up. I have to publish the new CSS file to my web server to see the changes. Why doesn't everything refresh in VS...anybody else have this problem?

PLEASE HELP OUT WITH THIS. This template should actually work the way it's shown.

i have a sample menu in my website that use SiteMapDatasorce to databind from Web.Sitemap .

now i need to change te text of menu items in difrent languages (I use Resources.Menu.txt_Home for Home Item)

can you please tel me how can i change the text of menu items frome Resource file?

ASP.NET Menu Control 2.0 is a problem

Hi ALL,

I would just like to raise an opinion regarding the asp.net menu control in .NET Framework 2.0.

We have a number of web applications, both internal and external, that currently employs the menu control. This is placed in a masterpage and pulls its data from a sitemap file. This is indeed a very handy and the least expensive (than employing expensive third-party asp.net menu controls too powerful for its use) solution as we needed basic navigation menu functionalities only.

However, the built-in menu control in .NET 2.0 is a problem when it comes to browser compatibility. Two issues that I want to highlight are:

its compatibility with Safari and Chrome
its compatibility with Internet Explorer 8

Compatibility issues with Safari and Chrome

To fix this issue is plain and simple. You can add the below code to your pre_init event:

You may have hundreds of pages and pasting this into each page may be a dilemma especially if you hate working like a repetitively-tasked labour monkey for hours. You can simply place this code in a global class (mine is named PageBase.vb) and inherit every page from it ("inherit PageBase" will replace "inherit System.Web.UI.Page"). This will reduce your task to simply doing a quick find-and-replace method.

Compatibility issues with Internet Explorer 8

I am aware that the .NET Framework team and the IE team had a debate on this making the .NET Framework team to admit they were wrong in their dynamic menu control display mechanism. From here, the .NET guys issued a hotfix to fix a number of issues within .NET Framework 2.0. Find more details here.

Apparently, we have a number of applications in a number of our servers. For people who may want to slag me for not having a central server for web applications, we do this for DMZ zoning for different target client/customer groups.

This hotfix now requires us to install it to all servers where it is needed. This is another problem and it is costly. We have a number of third party applications, both web and desktop softwares, that maybe affected by this hotfix. This may require risk assessments and systematic testing to applications using .NET Framework 2.0.

Our IT is our strategic asset so doing small hotfixes like this may pose huge risks to our current operations.

I am not looking for answers as what I raised was no question but an opinion. Your opinions on this will certainly be welcomed also.

Implement 2 menus

Hi everybody!

This is new territory for me, so this might sound silly! How do i implement 2 menus??!:one menu (which is accessible by everybody - on the top of the site) and another menu (which is accessible by users logged into the system - on the left side of the site). But for the left menu (for the logged in users) not all menui tems should be shown: only those to which the user is authorized to use.

I tried to solve my problem as follows (but don't know if this is the correct way):

1.Decorated all the actions with Authorize (Roles authorization)

2.Created a MVC Sitemap file for the top menu (accessible to everybody) (see this from Codeplex)

3.Created a second MVC Sitemap file for the left menu (accessible to logged in users)

4.Used Html.Menu helper method (extension method) to create menu items for the top and the left menu.

The menus are showing up correctly (taking into account the role of the logged user), but when i click on a menu item on the left i get an error "

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

so i think this approach is pretty unusable!(at least in my understanding).

Is there another way to implement such kind of scenario??

Child menu items not showing (just white space)

Hi,

I have a VS2008 project with a Master Page...

I have added Menu controls to several of the COntent Pages and all work well.... EXCEPT for the one which has Child items. The child items are just showing up as a white space (which I am unable to click on).

What am I missing?

I have have changed the colors etc for each of the menu controls... Dynamic, Static, and Level controls and still the child menut items are just a white area?

I saw this fix on MS's site and added it but it doesn't sovle my issue. I also added it to the MasterPage to no avail.

default masterpage, leftcol menu

I'm a old newbie back at doing ASP.NET after a 10 year break...

This is what I want to do: I want to place a menu in the leftcol DIV of the default masterpage. When someone clicks on a menu item I want to put new content in the "main" DIV. I also want the leftcol to actually appear left of main.

I'm creating the menu using <ul class="menu">

Problems:

(1) leftcol does not appear left of main, whatever I do I can't get the menu to appear to the left of the content of the "main" DIV. Instead it apperas either above or below.

(2) I want to use the "menu" style class as I want the look and feel of the left menu to match that of the horizontal menu, but because the left menu needs to be vertical (and not horizontal) I need some trick to accomplish this without making the line space between menu items 2'

Can someone please guide me in the right direction?

onmenuitemclick event is not firing in IE7

Binding Menu To Database
