  Well, that would work, but I'm not sure why you want to do that. Is it that you simply want to copy the values from the BaseClass instance, or you want to create a new DerivedClass that have the same initial values for whaveter properties or member variables?

  In some cases, yes, but your network admin will know for sure. If your web site is on a Web server where multiple web sites use the same port, such as the default port 80, you will also need to configure the host header for these Web sites, so that IIS knows how to route incoming requests to the correct Web site.

  There are different ways of achieving that, but your way will work. Mind you, if you assign values from the parent class that are contained in reference types, (such as of type object ) you will create a reference to the actual object on the heap, and not copy the value from the parent class.

  One way is to create a host header named, mywebsite, for your IIS Web application. This is done from within IIS. the next thing you need to do is to create a DNS entry that routes requests for mywebsite to webserver. The best way to do this is to talk to your network administrator, so he or she can set it up in the DNS server.
