guidelines for implementing modal popup..
i've seen at least a few different examples on the internet but some don't work at all, some only work partially and i seem to get different results depending on what app i'm working on whether it be a test app at home or a real app at work. first i tried the code in this article.. http://www.karpach.com/ModalPopupExtender-Example.htm referring to the .modalWindow via the cssclass attrib of the panel itself does not work. i had to put 'display:none' as a style attribute of the

Re: What does SQL have to do with AJAX?
i don't think this has been mentioned yet but because Web parts and zones allow users to customize the look of a page by moving different parts around to make it look the way they want, the position of all the parts and what zones they're in have to be saved somewhere between user sessions. guess where ASP saves this info - in a database. i don't know all the ins and out but Asp behind the scenes creates a sql database called ASPNETDB.MDF to store this info. i wondered what the heck it

Re: problems with ModalPopup and DropShadow
i see my first reply was deleted - nice. no matter, i figured it out. it was the use of the modalClass style that messed it up. when i put all the needed styles in the Panel tag, the DropShadow worked. still can't get the DropShadowExtender to work but that's for another day.

Re: Fade pages like mint.com
just a guess.. you actually may not need Ajax. try adding this to the head section of the html of your main page.. <meta http-equiv="Page-Exit" content="progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Fade(duration=.5)" />

problems with ModalPopup and DropShadow
my code is below. this is just a test application i set up to show a friend but i get the same behavior in my app at work which is much more involved. when i bring up a panel by itself with no DropShadow attribute and no Extender, the panel comes up just fine and is visible. when i try using the DropShadow attribute (setting it to 'true') without hooking up the DropShadowExtender, i get a big black box where the panel should be and that box/panel comes up in the wrong position (not in same

has anyone ever gotten the Remember Me cookie stuff..
to work properly? i've seen quite a few threads/articles that have 'solutions' but the few that i've tried haven't worked. i know there's a few pieces needed to get this to work (including a Forms auth setting in web.config) but i'm still not sure whether i have to write/retri eve the cookie myself or if the provider does that behind the scenes, etc. any help would be appreciated (detailed please). btw, i'm using MembershipProvider not SqlMembershipProvider. i should

Re: why doesn't this work in Firefox?

Re: why doesn't this work in Firefox?
you understood just fine. but that was just the first part. if you click OK on the warning box while the session is still active, no redirect will occur and the hit on the server that occurs when SessionEnd is posted to should reset the session timeout and in turn the interval for the warning message so that after another minute goes by, the warning box should come up again. this is what's not happening. i imagine that the clearInterval is the culprit (or at least the placement of it) since the

Re: why doesn't this work in Firefox?
if you hit OK before the timeout occured, yes i saw that too. the second alert problem occurs (in FF) when you force a redirect by letting the 2 minutes expire then hitting OK. sorry if i didn't make that clear in the original post.

Re: why doesn't this work in Firefox?
sorry.. i didn't even get the alert the first time let alone the second. [quote user="alaa9jo"] Now you made things clear for me,I did a test and you where right ! I think FF queues the calls of setInterval even if you didn't press OK,if the time has come to execute the function once again and there was something blocking it from execution (like our alert message),FF queues it to be executed once you click OK,that's why the message appeared twice (or even more if you waited
