  Please take a look at this example http://asp.net-tutorials.com/validation/custom-validator/ You will need to set the ControlToValidate and ServerValidate properties. Am not sure why you are turning off 'Enabled'.

  Hi, Field Validators are client side validators that use JS. Though, you do have an option with Custom validators to enable server side 'custom' validations. My understanding of Peter Blum's post is that - When the browser has JS disabled, you may face problem's using asp.net's built-in validation controls.
