XP HOME: security policy doesn't allow installation of some ASP.NET programs
**IMPORTANT: I am using XP HOME, so none of the regular methods of correcting this issue work for me because they rely on changing things in IIS, which I do not have on my machine. For example, Microsoft's KB# 329291 says that it applies to Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 andMicrosoft Internet Information Services 6.0. Clearly that doesn't help a user of XP Home.** The Issue: I have administrator rights on my XP Home machine (with all the latest patches including SP3), which I

Re: VS 2008 cannot switch to design mode
Mikhail, Thanks for your quick reply. That article suggests the following steps; here are the results of attempting to follow those steps. Keep in mind the article is written for Visual Studio 2008 and I'm using VWD Express 2008 with SP1. This is installed on Windows XP Home SP3, and I'm running the .NET framework 3.5 SP1. (Again, everything works fine until I try to view a LINQ to SQL Class file.) 1. Verified that the web authoring component is installed. 2. Verified that the program has

Re: VS 2008 cannot switch to design mode
I have a similar problem but only when trying to open the split-page object relational designer for LINQ to SQL classes in VWD Express 2008. I tried each of your suggestions: 1. Verified there is no path to MS Office shown in My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Environment Variables 2. Copied the suspect dll file mentioned in your article, overwriting the dll file of the same name in Office 10 and 11. Office 12 (2007?) was installed as a trial and uninstalled; there is still a folder there but

Re: Code snippets - importing from EW?
I guess I could open VWD and use that to navigate to the folder where the EW snippets are kept, then open that snippet file (which is an XML file) in VWD and then do multiple copy/paste operations to make them in VWD. At least that way I would know that they are all exactly the same.

Code snippets - importing from EW?
I wish to import my code snippets from Expression Web (version 1) into VWDExpress but they seem to be completely different formats. That's unfortunate since I made quite a few of them in EW. Any easy way to swap snippets back and forth between the two programs or is there some good reason not to?

Re: Upraded to VWDExpress 2008 I lost database connection
I FIXED IT! I FIXED IT! WHOOPEE!!! (seismographs may show tremors where I've been jumping up and down) Here's what fixed the problem: The "answer" stated in the following forum: http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=98346&siteid=1 This excerpt is what fixed it : I would first make a backup and then delete the SQLExpress directory under C:\Documents and Settings\<your user account name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data

Re: Upraded to VWDExpress 2008 I lost database connection
I haven't played with VS2008 yet....your old project is referencing sql 2005, right? You could download and install sql 2005 advanced pack and wait till better tools are out for sql 2008.
I might have to do that. For now I can use my laptop if necessary, but I really don't have anything that's critical going on with the sql database - I used an Access database for the only real data-driven page that I've created. It's just that I'm

Re: Upraded to VWDExpress 2008 I lost database connection
Ahh...so it's sql 2008 :) VS will need sp1 installed to work with it. Also, Management Studio Express is free :)
In looking for the Management Studio Express, there does not seem to be one for SQL 2008 yet - it is still the 2005 version that is on the Microsoft site, even though the help file is referencing version 2008. It should be noted that the 2008 edition does not yet offer the enhanced versions that the 2005 version offered. I'm hesitant

Re: Upraded to VWDExpress 2008 I lost database connection
I installed whatever components of SQL Server Express 2008 that came on the same ISO file as VWDExpress 2008. I was not presented with any configuration options when it installed SQL Server Express so I'm using whatever the defaults would be. I will see if I have or can get the SQL Server Management Studio but I'm guessing that is only for the "real" version of SQL Server, not the Express version.

Re: Upraded to VWDExpress 2008 I lost database connection
Okay, now the depth of my ignorance is going to be disturbingly obvious. I'm in the Sql Server Configuration Manager. I have about as much business being in the SQL Server Configuration Manager as a 4 year old kid has being in the captain's seat of a jumbo jet. Or maybe less depending on the 4 year old. I see SQL Server Services on the left pane. With that highlighted, there are three entries in the right pane. The top one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) - Running. The next two are "stopped"
