  What the error message you have given here, is not the actual problem, You need to check the deployment properties in IIS. What I suspect is this website is not deployed properly in IIS, If you have installed multiple version of Framework in your machin ethen check if this is running under correct version of not, you can check this by going to IIS, Property of the virtual Directory and then go to ASP.NET tab, under ASP.NET check the ASP.NET Version.

  This happens when you have selected, Only for me, instead of All User while installing Visual Studio, but dont worry you can do this by Right Click on Start Menu, Select Explore, and Copy the folder for Visual Studio 2008 and Copy this in All Users Folder, You can go to All user by again right click on start menu and Select Explore All User and copy this folder here.

  You can go to Start ==> Run ==> Type MMC In MMC Select File ==> Add Remove Snapin ==> Add 'Select SQL Server' I hope this may work.

  If this is the message "please do respond as fast as you can and i'm gratefull for any assistance" then its fine, debug you code, otherwise there is no such message in ASP.NET or up to Framework 3.5 as far as I know.

  I think this is enough to get started, as Visual Studio 2008, with SP1 have got inbuild support for ASP.NET Ajax, LINQ, jQuery, etc But still it depends on what you want to learn, if you want to learn Silverlight, MVC Framework, etc then you need to download these frameworks seperately.
