"Model.customers[i].Comment" is a string, the i won't get expanded = just as "7/2" is a string, and not the string 3.5

If you can run MVC 2/Preview 2, look at How to: Validate Model Data Using DataAnnotations Attributes it's much more up to date.

Let visual studio create the view (right click in action method, create view) - then create a strongly typed details view. It will generate all the correct code for you.
