Re: [Microsoft.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService()] - The type or namespace name 'Web' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft'
This is very helpful. I see that the line that invokes the webservice is ServicePath="http://......". Is this the only line I need to invoke a webservice? How does the parameter pass into the GetEmployeesByRole method (if it takes parameters)? Also, Where can I place this code, in ButtonClick, Pageload, or something like that? THANKS!

Re: [Microsoft.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService()] - The type or namespace name 'Web' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft'
Actually you're a great help! It gave confidence that what I did was fine and it turned to be the case. The only problem was that the assembly didn't come in immediately. Much later after I added the reference, I got a message saying that "web.config was modified outside....do you want to reload..." and I said "yes". There, it is, the assembly showed up in my web.config file. And it works now! We need to let people know about the delay of the added reference being effective

Re: Passing parameter into Web Service
I installed the ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extention 1.0 and added the dll into the 'Add Reference'. I could only find "AJAXExtentionToolkit.dll" and added it. Is the installation correct? Do you have the exact name for the AJAX Extension assembly? It still complains about 'Script', not 'Web' does not exist. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Do you have the exact name for the AJAX Extension assembly? When I did the steps instructed, it added "AJAXExtentionToolkit.dll" and the error message still didn't go away. However, it complains about 'Script', not 'Web' does not exist. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Passing parameter into Web Service
I really appreciate the efforts! How did you find it? And yes, the download site was very confusing. The URL you sent was very straightforward and I installed it. THANK YOU! Unfortunately, i still got the same error message complaining about this line - [System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService()] "The type or namespace name 'Script' does not exist......." What is missing? Many thanks again!

Re: Passing parameter into Web Service
I drop the idea to un-install .NET 2.0 and install .NET 3.5 for concerns that it may screw up VS 2005. Any insight?

Re: Passing parameter into Web Service
I read through the .NET 3.5 README. It requires uninstall the previous .NET, no workaround. I can't find AJAX download for .NET 2.0 and VS2005, only AJAX for NET2.0 and VS2008. Any help or suggestion for that? My second thought is: Do I have to have AJAX to write a client Browser or JS application to test WebService? MANY THANKS!

Re: Passing parameter into Web Service
Many thanks! I read through the download site. It says that ASP.NET 3.5 comes with AJAX without requiring a separate download for AJAX. It sounds like an easy solution. Is it OK to go ahead install ASP.NET 3.5 on top of ASP.NET 2.0 or I need to remove the previous ASP.NET versions? THANKS!

Re: Passing parameter into Web Service
Thank you so much! Would the latest ajax.dll (5.7.22.2) work with .NET 2.0 framework or I have to download ajax.dll (5.7.25.1) Beta? Also, have you heard of REST protocol? THANKS!
